Ceramics Essay
Ceramics has been a challenge since day 1, to learn the techniques, how to glaze, how to foot, and how to grade. But since day 1 I have always known what my theme was going to be for my semester of advanced ceramics. Simplicity and harmony. Every glaze job that I did, every project that I threw, and every foot ring that I footed, I tried to incorporate my theme into them.
One way that I incorporated simplicity into my project is when I throw, I make them as simple and smooth as I can. I made sure that my clay was always smooth around the project and even. I usually ended up making cylinders because they were simple and not complicated looking.
Another way that I incorporated simplicity into my projects is when I foot them I always made them a certain way, I usually made them rounded and made them wider because I like that look better.
My final and most important way that I incorporated simplicity is when I glazed my projects I always made sure that the glaze was smooth and not cracking at all, I never did random glazes thrown together and when I did I would do a clear glaze on top to give it that plain but cute look.
This year of ceramics was truly a learning experience and I am so glad that I decided to take it my freshman year! I think my theme for my projects kind of describes my freshman year, and I am glad that I chose it.
